contemporay craft fair

Just down the road, in our nearest town, (Bovey Tracey,) one of the country's largest and best craft fairs was held this weekend. Bliss. The best designer/makers in the country all in one very large tent, in a pretty park, under blue sky's! The standard of work was incredible (as was the food!) and with a free children's craft tent, there was something for everyone.
Manaton Makers were there in force, but sadly not displaying their wares.
Jan was running a basket making class, then demonstrating willow work, Kay was helping explain weaving in the 'Devon Weavers Workshop' stand, Anne was having fun in a print making class and Cat was rushed off her feet selling beads and buttons to the hoards!
We all spent some time looking at the beautiful craft and mentally measuring our own work against it. One of the joys of art and craft is that even with the exact same skills as another crafter you never make the same things (unless consciously copying). the more you look at what is good and what is selling the more inspired you are about your own work.

the new manaton makers blog!

well, we have finally got around to making a blog space to go with our website (www.manatonmakers.org). we are a group of crafts people (ok, yes we are all women but that is incidental) who all live in the small village of Manaton, on Dartmoor, in Devon (UK).
Their is Cat Frampton(me!) a jewellery designer, Jan Baker (next door in a country lane kind of way) who is a very talented basket maker, then Kay Blamforth (next along the lane past a farm) who is a weaver of (mainly) fine cottons and wools and in the village itself there is Karin Koch, another talented weaver with a compleatly different style from kay.
Added into this (down the lane from me by 200 yards) is Anne Moreton, a talented artist who is curently deeply into print making. ( i will confess- she is my mother!)
We show are work at a variety of places (more of which later.)
do take a look at our website and contact us via it if you like our work.
